We are excited to bring you important updates and share all of the wonderful things happening at James Cook University (JCU) in this fresh, new format.

It has been a big year for us here at JCU. We are now ranked in the top 201-250 universities in the world (THEs 2017) and at the subject level we have been ranked 1st globally for Marine and Freshwater Biology and 2nd for Biodiversity Conservation (Centre for World University Rankings Inaugural  Subject Rankings 2017).

For the seventh year in a row JCU was awarded 5 stars (out of five) for graduate job success, the only University in Australia to achieve this. In addition we have some exciting new courses and we have made some significant changes to our application requirements to streamline the process.

 We are pleased to introduce you to the Pro Vice Chancellor International, Melissa Banks.

 With over twenty-five years of experience in multiple education sectors and service providers, Melissa is an experienced leader in international education with proven abilities to build and manage high performance teams, and devise and implement business growth strategies to achieve challenging internationalization objectives and targets.

  Melissa has held senior positions in three Australian Universities, provided consultancy services in international education services, and led major research projects in her  capacity as Head of Research at IDP Education Pty Ltd.

  Melissa has contributed to national and international forums and publications throughout her professional career with 17 articles located on the Database of Research in International Education. She is best known for her work in global student mobility, outcomes and impacts of international education in Australia, student retention and transition, Australian transnational tertiary education, and institutional internationalisation strategies.

  Melissa is Vice President of the International Education Association Australia (IEAA), and a recipient of the prestigious award for Distinguished Contribution to the Field of International Education (IEAA).

THE World University Rankings 2018 - JCU climbs higher

The Times Higher Education World Rankings for 2018 have recently been released, and we are proud to announce that James Cook University (JCU) has officially been ranked in the world's top 201-250 institutions.

This is an increase on the University's 2016 and 2017 rankings within the 251-300 bracket. James Cook University is passionate about creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide through graduates and discoveries that make a difference, and believe that our rankings are evidenced by this.

Admissions update - certified documents

As part of our ongoing commitment to the support of our agent network James Cook University will now be accepting scanned certified documents for all student applications.

 Please note that:

1.    Students will be required to declare that the scanned  documents are a true copy of original documents at the point of application submission.

2.    Upon arrival on-campus students must present original certified documents for verification at a pre-enrolment session. If these are not produced the offer can be revoked and the student will be at risk of having to return to their home country.

JCU Cairns on-campus accommodation

Opening in early 2018, our brand new on-campus accommodation facility at James Cook University Cairns is an ideal choice  for students planning to study in North Queensland.

The seven-storey building offers residents a variety of apartment- living options and is fully equipped with WI-FI, BBQ facilities and a large courtyard for residents to relax with friends. A range of facilities, including grocery and other specialty shops, are conveniently located nearby.

 One of the best places to live for students studying at JCU Cairns, applications are still being accepted for 2018 and can be lodged on our website.
